Where is the Stanley Hotel and is it ghostly?

Located at 333 Wonderview Avenue, Estes Park, Colorado, The Stanley Hotel is a Colonial Revival hotel that includes 142 rooms. The hotel once hosted horror novelist Stephen King.  The place served as an inspiration for his 1977 bestseller The Shinning and its 1980 adaptation.

The Inspiration for the Shining

It happened on October 30, 1974.  Stephen King and his wife Tabitha, while living in Boulder, Colorado, decided to spend one night at the Stanley Hotel.  They stumbled upon it while driving through Estes Park as night approached.

"They were just getting ready to close for the season, and we found ourselves the only guests in the place — with all those long, empty corridors," King remembers. The chairs of the other tables were up on them.  As the music echoed, King felt like it was God placing him there and that night, he says, he had a dream that inspired The Shining.

Reputation of Being Haunted

The Stanley Hotel has a peaceful early history.  However, the years after the publication of The Shining earned it the reputation of being haunted. It has actually been investigated by paranormal investigators.

On October 2017, a picture taken at the hotel shows what appears to be two ghosts.  The photo was taken by John "Jay" Mausling during a "spirit tour". It seems to show a young girl walking down the stairs.

Former FBI Agent Ben Hansen, host of "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files" said that a thorough analysis of the photo shows no obvious sign of trickery.

Other apparitions of entities in the hotel have been reported including those of former employers of the hotel. There is solid evidence the supports the fact that the Stanly Hotel is, today, still haunted.
