Best Destinations in Maui

Travelers love to soak up the sun on many different beaches of Maui. But Maui isn’t just for beach-bums. Its various attractions and activities cater to just about every interest. Here are 3 of the most visited destinations that you have to see in Maui.

Haleakala National Park

Haleakala National Park is home to Maui's highest peak. Stretching across Maui’s southern and eastern coastline and rising 10,023 feet above sea level, Haleakala's graceful slopes can be seen from just about any point on the island. You can travel atop the highest peaks of Haleakala, hiking above the clouds and horseback riding across ethereal deserts. As the park stretches out to the coast towards sea level, you can even visit lush tropical areas full of waterfalls and streams. You can enter the park on foot for $5 per person or in a car for $10, and admission is good for three consecutive days.

Road to Hana

The Road to Hana is a scenic highway that twists through the lush rainforest and past the cascading waterfalls that line the island's eastern shore. Most people start their trip in Kahului with the intention of motoring 55 miles to Hana. There are several notable photo opportunities along the way, including the Twin Falls around the 2-mile marker (driving from Kahului to Hana); and the Wailea Overlook or Waikani Falls around the 21-mile marker. Since the trip will take you awhile, pack snacks and a cooler with drinks.

Waianapanapa State Park

"Waianapanapa" means "glistening waters." The most immediately noticeable feature to the 120-acres that make up Waianapanapa State Park is the black sand beach. Those who hike along the park's primary trail will discover freshwater caves where visitors can enter and even swim in the pools. Waianapanapa State Park sits just more than 3 miles north of Hana in East Maui. The park is open to visitors every day, and there is no admission fee.
